Alzarri Joseph misses out on West Indies' T20 World Cup squad with injury

The bulk of the squad did duty in the previous T20 World Cup in 2024, that was played in the Caribbean, with Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell both having now retired.

Jason Holder and Johnson Charles will bring plenty of experience with Charles set to play his fifth global tournament in the shortest format.

Sampson only made his international debut in the recent series against Afghanistan but scored 241 runs for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2025 Caribbean Premier League.

Captain Shai Hope, Roston Chase, Akeal Hosein and Sherfane Rutherford return to the squad from that series against Afghanistan as they had SA20 commitments.

The Windies will play the Proteas in three T20Is, starting in Paarl on Tuesday, ahead of the global tournament.

West Indies T20 World Cup squad: Shai Hope (captain), Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd
