Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro shine amid Man Utd injury crisis

The 19-year-old, who joined United from Arsenal last year, has become an increasingly important figure this season. With injuries sidelining Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt, both Heaven and Yoro have been handed extended runs in the side, gaining valuable first-team experience.

Yoro, in particular, has started United's last five matches, and Heaven believes the Frenchman has fully earned his place. "He deserves it," Heaven said. "He has shown what he can do ever since he came here, so I am happy for him.

"He is quick, good on the ball, good in the air. He has got everything you need as a centre-back, so he will become top."

Heaven himself has featured 15 times in all competitions this season, the highest tally of his young career, and credits much of his development to the coaching staff. Under head coach Michael Carrick, former defenders Jonny Evans and Jonathan Woodgate have taken active roles in mentoring the club's younger players.

"We are always doing extra work with them," Heaven explained. "Me and Leny are always learning and helping each other. We are still very young, so there is a lot to improve, but the coaches are helping us every day."

Evans, who only recently retired from playing, has played a particularly important role in Heaven's progress. "He helped me a lot last season when he was still playing," Heaven said. "Now he is a coach, it makes things easier because we already have that connection."

The young defender also pointed to senior figures in the dressing room as key influences, highlighting Harry Maguire and former Arsenal team-mate William Saliba.

"Having that experience next to you gives you confidence," Heaven added. "You feel more secure, and it helps your game."

With opportunities opening up and guidance from experienced mentors, Heaven and Yoro are beginning to show they could form the foundation of United's defence for years to come.
