Bafana fans to win all-expenses-paid trips to World Cup

Speaking during a media briefing this week, the Minister introduced the "Lucky Fan Programme," an initiative aimed at rewarding passionate football supporters across the country, wrote The South African.

The tournament is set to take place from 11 June to 19 July across Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

McKenzie emphasised that the programme would be funded entirely by private sponsors, not the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.

Under the initiative, one supporter from each Premier Soccer League club - 16 in total - will be selected to attend the global showpiece. A judging panel featuring prominent figures such as Robert Marawa and Andile Ncube will oversee the selection process.

Winners will receive a comprehensive package that includes flights, match tickets, accommodation, visa arrangements, and a spending allowance.

McKenzie revealed that the chosen fans will attend the tournament's opening match, where South Africa is expected to face Mexico.

To enter, supporters will be required to submit a 30-second video explaining why they are their club's most dedicated fan. Further details regarding the application process are expected to be released by the department soon.

While the initiative is set to create excitement among local supporters, it also reflects a broader effort to reconnect fans with the global game by offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Meanwhile, well-known supporter "Mama Joy" has also secured her own trip to the World Cup through a separate sponsorship deal with sportswear brand abOVEnormal, highlighting the growing commercial interest in football fandom.
