Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany wins Belgian Coach of the Year award

Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany wins Belgian Coach of the Year award

The accolade comes after a year in which Kompany guided the Bavarian giants from early-season difficulties to domestic dominance.

Bayern began 2025 under pressure, following an early DFB Pokal exit and struggles in the UEFA Champions League group stage, yet the club reclaimed the Bundesliga title and lifted the DFL Supercup, compiling a phenomenal record along the way.

Unable to attend the award presentation in person, Kompany's father accepted the trophy on his behalf. The Belgian coach later expressed his gratitude, highlighting the honour of being recognised among Belgium's elite managers.

"It's an incredible honour. This award means a lot to me," said Kompany, via iMiaSanMia.

"Even more so when you see the other names on the list of winners and the history associated with the Trophy. Raymond remains an example for all Belgian coaches, but also for those working beyond our borders."

The Raymond Goethals trophy celebrates the legacy of its namesake, a highly successful Belgian coach known for leading Olympique de Marseille to their only European Cup triumph in 1993.

Goethals, whose career included certain controversies, became renowned for achieving success abroad, setting a high standard for Belgian coaches on the international stage - one Kompany is increasingly seen to meet.
