Bernardo Silva elated to keep Manchester City title hopes alive after win at Liverpool

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has admitted that the 2-1 comeback victory against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday boosts their Premier League title hopes.

The 31-year-old scored the equalizer for City in the 84th minute before Erling Haaland grabbed the winner from the penalty spot in additional time.

The victory ensured the Citizens maintain a six-point gap behind log leaders Arsenal, who had won their match on Saturday to heap pressure on Pep Guardiola's side.

"When I scored, I was happy, but we needed another one. Erling got us that one," said the Portuguese star after the match.

"I feel the whole team knew before the game, if we lost then probably the title race was over. We felt like we needed to win the game.

"That puts us a bit closer. The hope is there. We're going to fight until the end. Six points is still six points. We're happy but we need to keep doing our job."

The result marked only the third victory at Anfield for City since the start of the Premier League era in 1992 and the first since the COVID hit 2020/21 season.

"Today I'm very happy because it's the toughest place to come to in England," added Silva.

"To get the first win here in nine seasons apart from the COVID year, you can imagine how tough it is to win here. I'm really happy."

City will turn their attention to Wednesday's Premier League fixture against Fulham at the Etihad Stadium before hosting Football League Two side Salford City in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.
