Betway Premiership: Five takeaways from the week's PSL action

Mofokeng-inspired AmaBhakaniya claim first win of 2026

Bafana Bafana international Relebohile Mofokeng produced a Man of the Match performance for Orlando Pirates in the 2-0 victory against Magesi on Saturday.

The attacker provided a neat assist for Yanela Mbuthuma's opener before expertly slotting the ball into the net from outside of the box for the second goal.

The win is Bucs first of 2026 and extends their unbeaten run in the Betway Premiership to 12 matches.

Kwayiba return boosts Chippa to back-to-back wins

Attacking midfielder Sinoxolo Kwayiba's return to Chippa United from his short Orlando Pirates stint has seen the team record consecutive victories for the first time this season.

A Kwayiba brace this past Saturday was enough to see off Durban City 2-0 at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London, with the 25-year-old deservedly claiming the Man of the Match award.

Usuthu win third consecutive match

AmaZulu defeated Marumo Gallants 1-0 away to claim their straight win in the league and their second victory of the year and continue their push for a CAF continental spot on the table.

The winner by Mlondi Mbanjwa was the fourth goal that the Durban-based side have scored after the 70th minute in the past two matches.

Kaizer Chiefs maintain fourth straight clean sheet

Amakhosi edged Marumo Gallants 1-0 in their midweek clash last Wednesday away in Bloemfontein, their fourth Betway Premiership match without conceding a goal.

Currently, goalkeeper Brandon Petersen leads the league with 11 clean sheets from 15 appearances this season, emphasizing the good work that has been done defensively by the Soweto giants this season.

Gallants go winless for three months

Marumo Gallants lost both their home matches last week against AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs by a 1-0 scoreline to extend their losing streak to three matches in the league.

Shockingly, Bahlabane Ba Ntwa have not won a Betway Premiership fixture since a 2-1 win over Chippa United back in October 2025 and have now slipped to a precarious 13th spot on the table, ahead of Chippa United on superior goal difference.
