Boost for Proteas as David Bedingham returns from injury ahead of WTC final

The 31-year-old Bedingham suffered a fractured a toe while playing for English county side Durham against Warwickshire in a First-Class fixture played from 11-14 April.

The middle-order batter subsequently missed four First-Class matches but was named in the Proteas' 15-man squad for the WTC final that will take place at Lord's from 11 June.

Bedingahm returned to Durham's starting line-up for the four-day clash against Somerset on Friday, scoring 17 off 33 balls in the first innings before being adjudged lbw against fellow South African Migael Pretorius.

Bedingahm will look to get through the match without any after effects from the injury and should link up with the Proteas squad ahead of the four-day warm-up encounter against Zimbabwe, which will be played in Arundel, Sussex from 3 June.

Kyle Verreynne and Dane Paterson are two more players in the Proteas' Test squad that will do duty at Lord's that are currently playing county cricket in England.

Wicketkeeper-batter Verreynne has scored one century for Nottinghamshire in nine innings while seamer bowler Paterson has taken 10 wickets in his first four matches for Middlesex.

The Proteas have several players still taking part in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) but they will return home on 26 May before departing for England four days later.
