Gayton McKenzie hails son's R50m SuperSport United purchase
The proposed R50 million sale of SuperSport United to Calvin Le John, son of Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie, has sparked widespread debate over potential conflicts of interest.
AmaKhosi are currently in the Dutch town of Apeldoorn, where they will play five friendly matches against European opposition. The tour kicks off on Tuesday with a clash against Dutch second-division side Vitesse Arnhem in Dorpsstraat.
"These are important, competitive friendlies for us," Petersen told the club's media.
"Playing against teams who compete at a high level abroad is always good. It allows us to gauge where we are as a team."
The 30-year-old shot-stopper said the intense training and match preparation in Europe will help the squad build a solid platform for the long season ahead, one that includes their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.
"The pre-season is where we lay the foundation. We sweat and suffer now so we can shine later. We're pushing our bodies to the max to prepare for what's coming," he added.
In addition to Vitesse, Chiefs are scheduled to face FC Utrecht, NEC Nijmegen, PEC Zwolle, and FC Twente before returning home on 19 July.
With coach Nasreddine Nabi overseeing preparations and a number of new signings being integrated, the Glamour Boys will be hoping the European camp helps build chemistry, sharpness, and belief as they aim to get back to being one of the most competitive teams in the PSL and the continent.
"This tour gives us the perfect platform to set our standards. We want to be ready from the first whistle of the new season," he concluded.
