Sharks boss John Plumtree plays down Eben Etzebeth's untimely injury
Sharks coach John Plumtree is confident that Eben Etzebeth will be back on the park next week should they make the United Rugby Championship final.
The award - which recognises young up-and-coming talent - was voted for by members of the media across all five URC nations.
The category is open to players who were aged 23 or under at the start of the season and had earned no more than five international caps at the beginning of the 2024/25 season. They must also have played at least nine games in the 2024/25 URC season.
Hanekom has been a monstrous player for the Bulls this season, helping them finish second in the regular season table. The Springbok started 11 from the 14 regular-season matches he has featured in, scoring three tries and ranking in the top five of the league's top offloaders. He also features in the top 15 in the carriers and defence beaters.
Hanekom was also named in the URC Elite XV of the season. The No.8 is one of three Bulls in the team. The others are front rowers Wilco Louw and Jan-Hendrik Wessels.
Sharks' Andre Esterhuizen has been selected at inside centre, while Stormers playmaker Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is named at flyhalf. Leinster's RG Snyman is at lock and Scarlets hooker Marnus van der Merwe also made the cut after his impressive season.
