Cameroon stun hosts Morocco on penalties to reach WAFCON final

Neither side could find a breakthrough after 120 minutes, with Cameroon eventually prevailing in the shootout to reach their fourth WAFCON final.

Morocco had the clearest chance to settle the contest in extra time when Fatima Tagnaout was handed a penalty in the 118th minute, but Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina saved her effort.

Bihina then played a key role in the shootout, saving penalties from Kenza Chapelle, Maryame Atiq and Sakina Ouzraoui.

Hanane Ait El Haj scored Morocco's only successful penalty, while Marie Ngah, Bella Rose and teenage defender Maryam Nyadjou converted for Cameroon. Grace Davila Mendoua missed Cameroon's second attempt.

Morocco had won their previous two WAFCON semi-final shootouts, against Nigeria in 2022 and Ghana in 2024, but their run ended against Cameroon.

The hosts had been aiming to reach a third successive final after beating South Africa 2-1 in the quarter-finals, while Cameroon followed their shock 1-0 victory over defending champions Nigeria by eliminating Morocco.

Cameroon will face Malawi in Sunday's final after the tournament debutants beat Algeria 3-1 in the other semi-final.
