Eddie Howe confident he can turn Newcastle's fortunes around

Newcastle enter Tuesday's clash with Tottenham in 12th place, having lost three straight Premier League matches and won just one of their last eight games in all competitions. The Magpies have struggled to cope with a congested fixture schedule, partly due to their ongoing involvement in the Champions League, and fans voiced their frustration after Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Brentford at St James' Park.

"There's no doubt in my mind that I'm the right man," Howe said. "If I didn't think I could take the team forward and give the players what they need, I would step aside."

Since 2021, Howe has transformed Newcastle, ending their 70-year trophy drought with last season's Carabao Cup win and twice reaching the Champions League. His tenure has also seen the club become a consistent top-six Premier League contender, a dramatic turnaround from the years before his appointment.

Despite the recent slump, Howe is drawing on experience from previous challenging periods in his career. "I will do better. These challenging moments are when you grow the most," he said, defending his squad after fans questioned their effort.

He added: "The players are strong mentally, and if we can regain our collective spirit, momentum can swing back very quickly. The world can look very different within a couple of games."

Looking ahead, Newcastle aim to bounce back in their upcoming Champions League knockout tie against Qarabag and a fourth-round FA Cup clash with Aston Villa. Howe insisted the focus remains on the team and club, not himself, and he will fight every day to deliver results.
