England in pound seat after huge first innings lead against Pakistan

The Pakistan side failed to use a delayed start to claw back into their first test match on day two of the first match in the three-match series against the Islanders in Edgbaston on Friday.

Veteran Joe Root, Jordan Cox, Dan Lawrence, and Harry Brook all scored half-centuries after a rain delayed sop, with Harry Brook narrowly missed a century, top-scoring with 91 runs in the first innings.

Spinner Ali Usman hat offered the visitors a glimmer of hope with his five-wicket haul despite the seamers failing to make use of favourable conditions due to the bad weather.

Dan Lawrence and Harry Brook made the most of their partnership to give the home side a 195-run lead heading into the second decisive innings of the Test match.

Jamie Smith [16 off 35 balls] and Joffre Archer [0 off three balls] will continue at the crease for the England of the start of Day three.
