Ex-Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault

The 32-year-old Ghanaian international, who recently became a free agent after his Arsenal contract expired on June 30, is accused of committing the offenses between 2021 and 2022. The charges include two counts of rape involving one woman, three counts involving a second woman, and a separate sexual assault involving a third.

According to police, the investigation was launched in February 2022 after an initial report of rape was received. Following a thorough inquiry, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized six charges based on what it described as a "comprehensive file of evidence."

Partey is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5. His legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, stated that he "denies all the charges against him" and is "ready to clear his name."

While Arsenal confirmed his departure from the club at the end of June, they declined to comment further due to the ongoing legal process. Partey joined Arsenal in 2020 in a 45 million pound move from Atletico Madrid and made 35 league appearances last season, scoring four goals and playing a key role in their Champions League campaign.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, emphasized that the priority remains supporting the women who came forward. "We understand the impact these cases can have and encourage anyone with information to come forward and speak with our team," he said.

The CPS urged the public to avoid speculation or online commentary that could interfere with the fairness of the proceedings. "Everyone is entitled to a fair trial," said Chief Crown Prosecutor Jaswant Narwal. "We ask the public to respect that process."

As the legal process begins to unfold, Partey's future - both in football and beyond - hangs in the balance. The case is expected to draw significant public attention, but authorities stress that the focus must remain on justice and due process.
