Former Malawi and Liberia head coach Marian Marinica named new Zimbabwe national team boss

The 60-year-old experienced former Malawi and Liberia boss replaces German coach Michael Nees, who was sacked after his side's unsuccessful World Cup qualification campaign.

Marinica, more popularly known as 'Mario', joins the Zimbabwe national team on a one-year contract.

His first job will be to prepare the Warriors for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, where they have been drawn in Group B alongside South Africa, Angola and Egypt.

A statement from ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi read: "We are delighted to welcome Coach Marinica to Zimbabwe.

"His wealth of experience, modern football philosophy, and proven results at international level make him the ideal candidate to lead the Warriors into a new era.

“His appointment reflects ZIFA's commitment to building a competitive and sustainable football structure that delivers results both on and off the pitch.”

Zimbabwe will face Algeria and Qatar in upcoming friendly matches this month.
