Grateful Given Msimango relishing Kaizer Chiefs return after long-inury layoff

The 28-year-old former Highlands Park and TS Galaxy defender made his competitive return in the 1-0 Betway Premiership win over Marumo Gallants in January as a late substitute.

He then played the full 90 minutes in the Nedbank Cup last 32 loss to Stellenbosch and the CAF Confederation Cup win against Al Masry last Sunday, something Amakhosi coach Cedric Kaze later admitted was a risk with Msimango out for so long.

He made a return to a team in form, with a number of new signings this seaaon, to make competition for places even harder.

Chiefs are next in action against Al Masry at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday and the player praised the new additions to the side.

"In terms of the signings, there are quality signings. Coming back from a long injury and coming back to a team that is doing well, performing well defensively as well, it’s not easy," he said on FARPost.

"But it's motivation because there is competition as well. It brings out the best in us. So far, they have done a great job coming in.

"I want to contribute to that fantastic job they have done, so it’s nothing but competition, and I am enjoying myself in that."

Amakhosi made 11 off-season signings, including Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Etiosa Ighodaro, Lebohang Maboe and Khanyisa Mayo.
