Jack Grealish clears up Man City pre-season tour absence

The England international did not travel with City's squad to Hong Kong and Seoul as they continue their preparations for the new Premier League season. His absence led to speculation that he was no longer part of Maresca's plans.

However, Grealish moved quickly to explain the situation, revealing he is still recovering from the foot injury that ended his season earlier this year.

"Just to let you know I'm still recovering from an injury so I'm not training yet," Grealish wrote in the comments of a now-deleted Instagram post.

"Haven't been 'left out' so stop talking poo poo thanks."

The 30-year-old underwent surgery on his foot in February and has been working his way back to full fitness during the off-season.

Grealish joined Manchester City from Aston Villa for 100 million pounds in 2021 and has enjoyed considerable success at the club, winning three Premier League titles and playing a key role in City's historic Treble-winning campaign in the 2022-23 season.

His playing time became more limited during Pep Guardiola's final period in charge, while he spent last season on loan at Everton as he looked to regain regular first-team football.

Now entering the final year of his contract, Grealish is aiming to prove his value to new manager Maresca once he returns to full fitness.

Maresca has spoken positively about the winger, suggesting there remains a good relationship between the pair.

"At the moment, he is here," Maresca said.

"I have a good relationship with Jack since I left.

"Also, we keep in touch, and the reason why is because he has a big heart and he is a very good guy."
