Junior Bok coach Kevin Foote already backing boys to defend U20 title

This is the opinion of Kevin Foote, who successfully coached his charges to glory at the recent U20 World Championships in Italy. The Baby Boks went unbeaten in the tournament, defeating the All Blacks 23-15 in the final on Saturday.

The good news is that a significant cohort of the squad will be eligible for the next U20 campaign in 2026. Captain Riley Norton, along with Siphosethu Mnebelele, Cheswill Jooste, Vusi Moyo, Oliver Reid and Phiwayinkosi Kubheka could all return if health and form allows.

"It will be important from our leadership point of view," said Foote.

"It is our responsibility to ensure we create the right environment, like the environment and culture we created this year.

"The new batch must understand how we want to play and what it means go play for South Africa. The leadership and culture is fundamental to win the championship.

"We will take a lot of confidence from the guys that are returning, but we know there is a special group coming in. There are a lot of guys who may not have featured yet, but could put their hands up in the Currie Cup."
