Kishan, Suryakumar star with the bat as India power past New Zealand in 2nd T20I

Chasing a stiff target of 209, India were rocked early when Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma fell inside the first two overs, leaving the hosts 6 for 2. Any hopes New Zealand had of capitalising were swiftly erased by a devastating counter-attack led by Kishan and Suryakumar, whose 122-run partnership turned the contest on its head. India reached the target in just 15.2 overs, registering their joint-highest successful T20I chase.

Kishan set the tone with a ferocious assault, particularly against Zak Foulkes in a costly third over, and brought up his half-century from just 21 balls - the fastest by an Indian against New Zealand in T20Is. He was eventually dismissed for 76 off 32 balls, having struck 11 fours and four sixes, but the damage was already done.

Suryakumar, initially content to play second fiddle, soon found his rhythm and unleashed a familiar range of strokes all around the ground. He reached his first T20I fifty in 24 innings off 23 balls and finished unbeaten on 82 from 37 deliveries. Shivam Dube added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 36 off 18.

Earlier, New Zealand had made a rapid start after being sent in, with Devon Conway and Tim Seifert attacking the new ball. India pulled things back through Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy, before Rachin Ravindra's fluent 44 kept the visitors on course. A late surge from skipper Mitchell Santner, who struck an unbeaten 47, lifted New Zealand to 208 for 6, but it proved well short on a night dominated by India's batters.

India now head to Guwahati for the third match firmly in control of the series, which also serves as a key build-up to the upcoming T20 World Cup.
