Lampard confirms Super Eagles' Awoniyi availability for Coventry clash at Tottenham

The 29-year-old has been out of the squad recently due to suspension after being sent-off in the 5-0 hammering by Brighton and Hove Albion on September 13.

Meanwhile, other competitors for his position have impressed in the last few matches without Awoniyi, with teenager Sidiki Cherif scoring on his Premier League debut.

Lampard has now opened up on the competition between his attacking players ahead of their fixture with North London side Tottenham Hotspur.

"Ellis [Simms] as well [is contributing], this is what it is there for. It's good competition in a critical area of the pitch," Lampard told reporters.

"If you want to try and do well in this league or stay in this league and progress in this league, you have to be able to have strikers that can do the all-round striker job but also score your goals."

Awoniyi joined The Sky Blues from Nottingham Forest ahead of the current 2026/27 campaign, making six appearances for City, making five appearances with one goal and a single assist in all competitions.

"You need with the rigours of this league to push each other, back each other and be there , there's nothing better, " added the Chelsea legend.

"Taiwo has missed his three games, he's back in, we bought him for a reason. I think he was doing pretty well before the red card and missing the games."
