Laura Wolvaardt hits form as Proteas Women seal T20I series win in Zimbabwe

Wolvaardt came into the contest on the back of two low scores by her standards but you cannot keep a world-class player down for long and the visiting captain showed all her ability as she stroked 16 fours and four sixes in her innings that came off just 62 balls.

The Proteas skipper was well-supported by wicket-keeper Karabo Meso, the teenager scoring her maiden international half-century to be exactly 50 not out from 51 deliveries, that included five fours and six, as the Proteas Women got to a total of 200-1 in 20 overs.

Wolvaardt and Meso's partnership yielded an unbeaten 173 runs following the early loss of opener Miane Smit (5) in the third over, caught at mid-off off the bowling of seamer Tendai Makusha (1-48).

The home team then suffered an early collapse at the start of the run-chase, slipping to 62-7 inside 13 overs as the Proteas Women bowlers kept a disciplined line and length at the Queen's Sports Club in Zimbabwe's second city.

It was a good day out for seamer Annerie Dercksen, who also ended with career-best figures of 5-15 in four overs as Zimbabwe eventually were bowled out for 120 in 19.3 overs.

The Proteas also gave a debut to 20-year-old spinner Luyanda Nzuza, who took 1-19 in her four overs, and generally acquitted herself well.

The fourth T20I of the series will take place in Bulawayo on Thursday with the five-match series set to be concluded at the same venue on Saturday.
