Mikel Arteta relaxed over Arsenal contract as Gunners prepare for new season

The Spaniard, who has managed Arsenal since 2019, signed his current agreement in 2024 and said he would like to remain in north London beyond its expiry.

He is also comfortable with formal negotiations taking place later, with Arsenal confident a new deal can be addressed during a less demanding period of the campaign.

"No, they don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here, I'm extremely happy," Arteta said.

"I feel very grateful to work with the people that I work with and whenever we have the possibility we will resolve that and that's it."

He added: "There's always another priority I think and that's the way we've been treating it.

"I think because everybody feels comfortable that the time on the contract is not going to be an issue.

"I think because my will certainly is to be here and I'm very happy here.

"And my feeling from the club is the same one so I think that's why everybody doing it things in a really organic way."

Arteta guided the Gunners to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, and the club are now seeking to strengthen their squad further. Arsenal have spent 143.5m pounds on Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis and Piero Hincapie, while Illan Meslier arrived from Leeds on a free transfer.

After missing out on Vinicius Jr, Arsenal remain keen on defensive reinforcements, with Ezri Konsa and Jarell Quansah among their targets following injuries to William Saliba and Jurrien Timber. The transfer window closes on 1 September.
