Nigeria's Women's World Cup failure sparks NFF investigation

According to a statement from the NFF Communications Department, the federation has established a six-member fact-finding committee to examine what it described as the "unwholesome poor run" of Nigeria's national teams, Arise News reported.

The committee will pay particular attention to the Super Falcons' failure to secure a place at next year's World Cup in Brazil.

Nigeria, the record ten-time Women's Africa Cup of Nations champions and current holders, were knocked out of the ongoing tournament in Morocco at the quarter-final stage.

Their disappointment was compounded when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the playoff for a place in the Inter-Confederations Playoffs.

The result ended Nigeria's remarkable record of appearing at every edition of the Women's World Cup since the tournament began in 1991.

The NFF described the failure to qualify as a significant setback for a team that had previously been regarded as "the supreme power of African women football".

Former NFF General Secretary Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, has been appointed to lead the committee.

Former Nigeria U20 coach Ladan Bosso, ex-Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, former Super Eagles captain Mutiu Adepoju and former FIFA referee Dr Alex Mana are also part of the panel.

Mohammed Nasir Sa'idu, chairman of the Sokoto State Football Association, will serve as secretary.

The committee is expected to assess the reasons behind Nigeria's recent struggles before submitting recommendations that could help the NFF determine its next course of action.
