Peter Shalulile: I wanted to stay fight for my position at Mamelodi Sundowns

The Nambian striker has been a phenomenon since his signing from Highlands Park in 2020, scoring 103 goals and creating 26 in 210 matches in all competitions.

Last term he weighed in with 11 goals and two assists in 48 games but wasn't a regular starter in the team, unlike in previous seasons where his name was the first on the list.

He was expected to leave the Brazilians, with some outlets reporting that Shalulile had decided against signing a new deal.

He even started the current campaign on the bench but has since found the target twice, in three Betway Premiership appearances, including the winner in a 1-0 defeat of Stellenbosch last time out to become the all-time leading goal-scorer in the Premier Soccer League.

Shalulile has now committed himself to Downs for the current campaign.

He told the club's website: "For now, I won't lie to you guys, I'm back and things didn't go well. There were discussions and negotiations about paperwork and all that. Still, I decided to call the chairman [Tlhopie Motsepe] and I told him I would rather come back and fight for my position."

The player added he is delighted to be back in the side.

"Glory to God. First of all I would like to thank my teammates, the coaches and everyone who played a part in all the success that I have achieved. And I believe that I would not have done it without my teammates.

“I just want to thank them and the club president [Patrice Motsepe] for allowing me to come here ... and everyone on the staff for their support,” he said.
