RCB win thriller to go top of the IPL while CSK compound Super Giants' woes

RCB won the toss and chose to bowl with conditions suggesting it would be a bit easier to bat later in the day.

Their bowlers did a fantastic job limiting scoring opportunities and taking consistent wickets to prevent Mumbai from gaining momentum.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was outstanding in his four overs, picking up four wickets for just 23 runs, including that of the dangerous Ryan Rickelton for two in the first over.

There were some solid contributions from the middle order to allow Mumbai to put together a defendable total, with Naman Dhir hitting 47 off 32 balls and Tilak Varma getting 57 from 42 balls.

MI reached 166/7 off their 20 overs, which always felt a little light but it was also clear the conditions favoured the bowlers.

RCB's chase got off to a rocky start with Virat Kohli being dismissed for a duck on the fourth ball of the innings, with Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar following soon after.

However, Krunai stepped up in a big way for his side by blasting 73 off 46 balls to get his side back in the game.

Corbin Bosch was excellent with the ball, returning figures of 4/26 in his four overs and the match went right down to the wire.

Beginning the final over, RCB needed 15 runs to win but seemed to lose their chance to win the game when Raj Bawa dismissed Romario Shepherd on the third ball with 10 runs still to get.

Then Kumar watched a wide before smashing the ball over cover for six and the game was back on, with RCB ultimately scoring the two runs they needed off the last ball to get over the line.

Runs flowed in the other IPL match on Sunday, with the Lucknow Super Giants having to bat first after losing the toss but still managing to set a total of 203/8 in their 20 overs.

Josh Inglis got them off to the perfect start with a flowing 85 off 53 balls, with Shabaz Ahmed chipping in with a well-played 43 off 25 balls lower down the order.

Akeal Hosein, Mukesh Choudhary and Anshul Kamboj all took a bit of tap, going for about 11 runs an over.

Noor Ahmad and Jamie Overton were the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1/24 and 3/36 off four overs respectively.

Almost everyone who had a bat for CSK chipped in as they chased down the total with four balls to spare.

Urvil Patel top-scored with a blistering 65 off 23 balls and Ruturaj Gaikwad also had a well-played 42 off 28 balls at the top of the innings.

Sanju Sampson (28 off 14 balls), Kartik Sharma (20 off 20), Prashant Veer (17 off 12) and Shivam Dube (15 off seven) all made useful contributions.

All of the Super Giants bowlers struggled, with both Mohammed Shami and Prince Yadav going at over nine runs to the over without picking up a wicket.

The other four bowler all went for over 10 runs an over too, with Aiden Markram conceding 14 runs in two legal deliveries as CSK smashed their way to an impressive win.
