Report: Liverpool will sell Luiz Diaz to Bayern Munich to land Newcastle's Alexander Isak

The shift in stance comes as the Reds aim to bolster their attacking options under manager Arne Slot.

Diaz, 28, has been a key figure for Liverpool since his 2022 arrival from FC Porto. Last season, he showcased his versatility, playing as a centre-forward 15 times and scoring 17 goals to help the Reds clinch the Premier League title. Despite his contributions, Diaz has expressed a desire to leave, with Bayern Munich emerging as his likely destination.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Bayern are preparing a new bid of 70 million euros plus 10 million euros in add-ons, following Liverpool's rejection of a 67.5 million euro offer, as reported by The Guardian on July 15.

Tavolieri posted on X, "Liverpool Football Club's expected to receive a 70M + 10M bid from FC Bayern Munich for Luis Diaz in the next hours. Talks are underway between clubs as #LFC won't suppress the Colombian's desire to leave."

Bayern's confidence in securing Diaz is growing, with Bild journalist Christian Falk stating to CaughtOffSide, "Bayern Munich are increasingly certain that they will sign Luis Diaz in the end. Now, it's just a question of money." Falk added that Bayern have offered Diaz a four-year deal worth 14 million euros gross per year, a significant jump from his current 2.7 million euros net at Liverpool.

The promise of a higher salary and greater appreciation is reportedly driving Diaz's interest in the move.

Barcelona had also pursued Diaz, with president Joan Laporta telling Mundo Deportivo, "It's true that I liked Diaz, a very complete player, but due to his contract situation with Liverpool, it was complicated."

However, the Spanish giants have opted for a loan deal for Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, effectively ending their chase for Diaz.

The potential sale of Diaz is tied to Liverpool's ambition to sign Newcastle's Alexander Isak. Sources indicate the Reds are prepared to break the British transfer record with a bid exceeding 130 million euros for the 25-year-old Swedish striker. Journalist Fraser Fletcher reported on X that Isak is open to leaving Newcastle, with Liverpool readying an offer.

The Reds' interest in Isak persists despite their recent 79 million euro signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Fabrizio Romano noted on X that Liverpool have rejected multiple bids for Diaz but are aware of his desire to leave, with Bayern and Barcelona still in contact with his agents.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's transfer strategy may involve further sales, with reports suggesting up to six other players could be offloaded to fund the Isak deal.

As the transfer window heats up, Liverpool's willingness to part with Diaz signals their intent to reshape the squad for another title challenge. Fans will be watching closely to see if the Reds can secure Isak and maintain their attacking firepower.
