Ruben Amorim: Mbeumo and Cunha rejected Champions League clubs to sign for Man Utd
Manchester United's latest high-profile signings, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, both rejected offers from UEFA Champions League clubs to move to Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old full-back is entering his 11th season at Old Trafford but is understood to be aware of strong interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia. Shaw's last two campaigns have been disrupted by recurring injuries, with the England international limited to just 12 appearances during the 2024/25 season.
Shaw featured in United's Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in May but now faces increased competition for a place in Erik ten Hag's starting XI. New arrival Diego Leon has added depth at full-back, while Patrick Dorgu and Diogo Dalot are also pushing for minutes on the left side of defence.
Although Shaw still has two years remaining on his current contract, reports suggest he is concerned about a reduced role moving forward. With the club continuing to reshape the squad and a growing emphasis on younger, more durable options, Shaw may be weighing up a potential exit while still holding value on the market.
The growing interest from the Saudi Pro League has become an increasingly viable option for aging Premier League players, offering not only financial incentives but guaranteed first-team football. For Shaw, a move abroad could provide the chance to reset after a difficult two years of stop-start form and fitness.
Internally, United are said to value Shaw's experience and leadership, particularly given the lack of consistent senior options in defence last season. However, his injury record - which has long been a source of frustration - is likely to factor into any decision about his future role within the squad.
Shaw's openness to new opportunities doesn't necessarily indicate an immediate departure, but it does signal a shift in mindset for a player who has previously expressed his commitment to the club. Much may depend on how pre-season plays out, and whether he can prove his fitness and reclaim a regular starting spot.
United, meanwhile, continue to assess their defensive depth across both full-back and central areas, and may yet look to offload players to streamline the squad and make room for further additions. Shaw's situation could become one to watch as the transfer window enters its final stretch.
