Richard Ngarava takes five as Zimbabwe complete first Test win at home in 12 years

It was Zimbabwe's first home Test win since 2013, their first innings victory since 2001 and their biggest Test win in the longest format.

The visitors resumed day three on 54-1 but folded quickly as left-arm seamer Ngarava sliced through the batting line-up for his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Ngarava finished with figures of 5-37 in 13 overs while fellow paceman Blessing Muzarabani took 3-28 in 12 overs and Tanaka Chivanga also chipped in with two scalps.

Zimbabwe's mammoth win was set up when they bowled Afghanistan out for just 127 on the first day, with seamer Brad Evans taking 5-22 in 9.2 overs.

The home team then responded with a total of 359 all out that saw Ben Curran score his maiden century in the longest format before he was dismissed for 121.

Sikandar Raza struck 65 while there also good contributions from number three Nick Welch. who scored 49, and Evans who hit 35 not out down the order.

The teams will now start preparations for the three-match T20I series that starts on 29 October at the Harare Sports Club.
