SA20: Lance Klusener to stay on as head coach of Durban's Super Giants

The former Proteas all-rounder has been in charge of the Durban franchise since the inception of the tournament in January 2023.

Under Klusener's guidance, the Super Giants reached the final in 2024, losing out to Sunrisers Eastern Cape, before finishing rock bottom in the last season.

"It's a privilege to continue this journey with the Durban's Super Giants and the RPSG Group. The support and belief shown in me is deeply appreciated. I look forward to building something even more special this season," Klusener said in a statement.

"We've laid the foundation over the past three years. Now, it's time to build a team that can consistently challenge for the title and make Durban proud. Durban is my home.

"Coaching this franchise is more than a job - it's a mission to build something enduring with our fans and players."

Dr Sanjiv Goenka, chairman of the RPSG Group, commented on Klusener's retention: "Lance brings a unique blend of strategic clarity, composure under pressure, and a deep understanding of the modern T20 landscape.

"His alignment with our vision for Durban's Super Giants makes him the ideal leader to continue shaping the team's future."

With a player auction scheduled to take place on 9 September, the franchise will look for reinforcements with the squad set to have a different make-up from last season.

Klusener added: "We've done a deep review of our past season and have identified key areas for improvement. This auction gives us a crucial opportunity to strengthen our squad and return to our best."

The fourth season of the SA20 is set to kick off on Boxing Day 2025 with defending champions MI Cape Town hosting Durban's Super Giants at Newlands.
