Saqib Mahmood ruled out of New Zealand tour with knee injury

Saqib Mahmood ruled out of New Zealand tour with knee injury

The Lancashire seamer was expected to be part of England's white-ball squads for the upcoming series against England before and the following tour of New Zealand.

However, the 28-year-old, who has been frustrated by injuries throughout his career, needs precautionary surgery on his knee and is no longer available.

Once believed to be a future star of the England bowling attack, Mahmood has struggled to hold down a regular place at international level due to his problems with injury.

He played in England's second ODI against South Africa at Lord's, while his last international T20 match was against India at the start of 2025.

England's series against Ireland begins on 17 September and will consist of three T20 matches before they travel to New Zealand for three T20Is and three ODIs in October.
