Shubman Gill celebrates first Test series win as captain as India overpower West Indies

Set a modest 121 for victory, the hosts reached the target during the morning session on the final day. KL Rahul guided the chase with an unbeaten 58, while B Sai Sudharsan chipped in with 39.

It was Indian captain Shubman Gill's first series win since taking over as Test skipper earlier this year.

"It's a really big honour and I would say I'm getting used to it," said Gill. "Managing all the players and leading this team is a great honour."

India had wrapped up the opening Test in Ahmedabad within three days and took firm control of the second by piling up 518-5 before declaring their first innings.

The West Indies responded with 248 before being forced to follow on. Their second innings showed much greater resolve, with centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope helping them post 390 all out and pushing the match into its fifth day.

Starting the final morning on 63-1, India needed only an hour to finish the job, though the visitors claimed two wickets through brilliant fielding efforts.

Captain Roston Chase removed Sudharsan when Hope dived low in the slips to complete a fine catch. Gill (13) struck a six and a four but mistimed a delivery from Rose, sending the ball swirling toward midwicket where Justin Greaves sprinted in to grab a stunning catch.

That proved the final twist, as Rahul struck the winning boundary to confirm India's victory.

Spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who collected eight wickets across both innings, earned the player-of-the-match award, while Ravindra Jadeja was named player of the series.

Reflecting on the defeat, West Indies skipper Chase chose to highlight the positives. "The positives for us in this match was that Campbell and Hope played well and scored hundreds," he said. "We batted 100 overs after a long time, that was another positive. Taking the game to the fifth day, that was great for us."

India will next tour Australia, with the first one-day international set for October 19 in Perth.
