TTM striker Bonginkosi Sqwaya sees Nedbank tie with Orlando Pirates as platform to shine

The Limpopo-based side were drawn against the Soweto giants in the Last 32, a fixture that could provide Sqwaya the platform to make an impression on one of South Africa’s biggest teams.

Growing up in the dusty streets of the Eastern Cape, Sqwaya always dreamed of wearing the Buccaneers jersey. Now, he has the chance to prove himself on the pitch against them.

"It's an open draw. There were no teams seeded. We could have drawn any team. We are playing against Pirates. It's not gonna be an easy game. We know they are log leaders in the Betway Premiership," Sqwaya told KickOff.

However, the striker is focused less on the challenge and more on the opportunity it presents.

"In football, it is 11 vs 11. Anything is possible. We need to prepare well and play our own game. Personally, I am happy to play against Pirates because this is a team I grew up supporting. It is still my dream to play for Pirates one day. Maybe this is the best opportunity to market myself and probably realize my biggest dream in football."

The PSL has yet to confirm dates and venues for the Last 32, but the matches are expected to take place during the second week of February.

For Sqwaya, this fixture represents more than just a cup tie—it is a chance to perform on a stage that could change the trajectory of his career.

Facing the club he grew up admiring, he hopes to turn a childhood dream into a professional opportunity.
