Vincent Kompany hints at Bayern Munich squad rotation ahead of Union Berlin clash

Bayern edged Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in a high-intensity Champions League clash on Tuesday night, with Luis Diaz scoring a brace before being sent off in a dramatic 10-man victory that extended their unbeaten run across all competitions to 13 matches. Now, Kompany faces the familiar challenge of balancing freshness with form ahead of a tricky domestic fixture at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.

The Belgian coach rested several key players, including Luis Diaz, Michael Olise and Harry Kane, in the 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen before the Paris trip, and hinted that similar rotation could be on the cards.

"We'll see who plays tomorrow," Kompany said at his pre-match press conference on Friday. "There's always the question of when players should take a break, and when they do, people ask why they're resting. We look closely at the signals from their bodies.

"If they've recovered well and are fit for the next game, then we take that into account. We'll make the call when we see how they feel."

Bayern go into the weekend sitting top of the Bundesliga table after nine matches, five points ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig, with third-placed Borussia Dortmund, who play later on Saturday. A win in Berlin would keep the pressure firmly on their title rivals and extend their perfect domestic start.

Kompany confirmed that apart from left-back Raphael Guerreiro, who is carrying minor complaints from the Leverkusen match and will be rested as a precaution, the squad is in good health. "Only Raphael Guerreiro has a few issues after the Leverkusen game, so we've gone easier on him," he said.

Bayern are expected to field a strong but possibly reshuffled starting eleven as Kompany manages a demanding run of fixtures.
