Wandile Duba agrees to new Kaizer Chiefs contract

Wandile Duba agrees to new Kaizer Chiefs contract

The 21-year-old academy graduate has agreed fresh terms with AmaKhosi, ending uncertainty over his future after his previous deal was set to expire at the end of June.

The agreement reflects the club's confidence in one of their most exciting young talents and signals their intention to place greater trust in homegrown players.

Duba has emerged as a key figure from the Chiefs development system in recent seasons, gradually establishing himself in the senior setup. His progress during the 2025/26 campaign convinced the club that he is ready to play a more prominent role moving forward.

The Piet Retief-born attacker featured in 21 matches across all competitions last season, registering three goals and two assists. Although naturally a central striker, all three of his goals came while playing on the right wing during the second half of the campaign.

Former Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze previously explained the reasoning behind deploying Duba in a wider role.

"We didn't play him as a striker because we think that when he comes from a further position, he can get into the box and have more space to finish because he's a fast player and he likes to run. So we believe that when he's coming from a further position, he can get to the box and score," said Kaze.

Duba's encouraging displays after the AFCON break strengthened Chiefs' belief that he can become a regular starter. Since making his first-team debut, he has amassed 60 appearances in all competitions, contributing nine goals and five assists.

The contract renewal comes as Chiefs prepare for a new era on the technical bench. French coach Fernando Da Cruz is widely expected to take charge following the departures of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.
