Iwobi is set to become only the fourth player in Super Eagles history to reach the milestone alongside Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa.
The former Arsenal playmaker - who represented England at youth level before switching allegiance credited his family as well as uncle Austin 'Jay-Jay' Okocha - for guidance but stressed the final call was his.
"I went to the under-23s and I felt at home. Nigeria is where my heart is," he said.
While reflecting on his Super Eagles journey, the 30-year-old has expressed immense gratitude and pride.
"I am proud to be where I am today; proud to wear the green-and-white," he said. "I have no regrets choosing Nigeria," adding that while he would have liked to win the Africa Cup of Nations or feature at the upcoming World Cup, his decision remains unchanged.
Since making his debut against DR Congo in 2015, Iwobi has become a regular for the Super Eagles, featuring at four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, winning silver in 2023 and bronze in 2019 and 2025, and playing at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
One of his standout moments came in 2017 when he scored against Zambia in Uyo to seal World Cup qualification. "My parents were in the stadium," he said. "That's who I do it for."
A suspension earlier this year delayed his 100th appearance after a red card against Jordan, for which he later apologised. Despite reaching the centurion mark, Iwobi remains modest: "I won't say I am a legend. I only see myself as a Super Eagles player. I am just happy to make 100 appearances in a nation like Nigeria."
His father, Chuka Iwobi, praised his journey and commitment, saying: "Alex loves playing for the nation and always gives his best. No one can question his devotion."
