Aphelele Teto joins Chippa United on season-long loan from Scottish side Livingston

Aphelele Teto joins Chippa United on season-long loan from Scottish side Livingston

The 21-year-old winger spent the entire season on the sidelines in Scotland due to not being able to obtain a work permit.

Teto burst onto the scene with TS Galaxy as one of the country's most promising young talents and only needed 19 first-team appearances to convince Livingston to sign him on a four-year-deal.

The SPL side did their utmost to gain eligibility for the South African Under-23 international but were repeatedly denied being able to register Teto. They are hoping to sort out the matter and until then have loaned him back to the PSL so that he can continue his development.

Livingston first-team manager David Martindale said: “As a club, we were left with no option other than trying to find Teto a club for the season coming.

“With his GBE (Governing Body Endorsement) being refused by the SFA again, I find the process itself incredibly disappointing. As a club, we have had the player training with us for a full season and know what Aphelele could bring to the team. With relegation to the Championship, we felt that significant change in circumstance would help in our argument to convince the GBE panel that Teto would play for us.

“With no right of appeal on the decision, it was imperative as a club we secured our asset but got the player out playing football which is essential for him at this stage.

“We wish Teto all the best at Chippa United.”
