Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany targets 'big result' against St. Pauli

Kompany confirmed that Bayern have no new injury concerns and that several key players came through the midweek match without any issues. However, with a DFB-Pokal tie against Union Berlin to follow next Wednesday, he admitted he may rotate if needed.

"We'll see in the final session who can go again," Kompany said on Friday. "There are no injury problems, but we are monitoring a few small things and we want full energy for tomorrow."

The Arsenal defeat was Bayern's first loss of the season, and Kompany stressed the importance of a strong reaction.

"It's good that we can show what we're about so soon after a defeat," he said. "We never want to lose. We accept it, but we don't like it. This is a phase where we need a reaction. We need to prepare for big moments so we can be there and win."

St. Pauli arrive in Munich on the back of eight consecutive Bundesliga defeats, but Kompany insisted Bayern will not underestimate them.

"We don't differentiate between Arsenal and St. Pauli when preparing," he said. "We're at home, but when you look at St. Pauli, you see what they do well. It has been tough against them twice recently. They fight, they stay in games. We know it won't be easy, even if they have lost eight in a row.

"A match like this can free teams up when they are at the bottom. That could help them, so we need to be ready."

Away from team news, sporting director Christoph Freund said he is keeping an open mind ahead of the January window. While Bayern are not planning major business, he suggested the door remains open.

"In football you never rule anything out completely, but at the moment it's not planned because we are well equipped," Freund told Sky Germany. "Very important players are coming back, Hiroki Ito, hopefully Alphonso Davies, and then Jamal Musiala. Hopefully they will be our winter signings, and then we will be very well equipped."

Freund also addressed the situation of teenage forward Jonah Kusi-Asare, whose loan at Fulham could be cut short in January. The Swedish striker has struggled for minutes, with Fulham coach Marco Silva having said he was not yet ready for the Premier League.
