Bayern Munich face defensive test as Kim Min-jae injury clouds Frankfurt clash

The South Korean centre-back picked up knocks during Bayern's midweek Champions League win over Pafos FC, leaving him with pain in both his foot and shoulder.

German outlet Tz reported that Kim has also damaged the capsule in his acromioclavicular joint, making his involvement in Frankfurt unlikely.

Manager Vincent Kompany is reluctant to risk the 27-year-old but wants him available in case of an emergency. "Kim has taken a couple of tough hits and we need to be careful with him. Of course, you always want players like him on the pitch, but we have to think long term," Kompany has said.

Bayern's defensive options are stretched with Josip Stanisic already ruled out. Midfielder Leon Goretzka could be asked to fill in if required, a move Kompany has hinted at in training.

It is also uncertain whether Kim will be fit to join up with the South Korean national team next week, with the federation informed of his latest fitness problems.

Bayern head into the Frankfurt clash in strong form after dismantling Pafos 5-0 in Europe, but the absence of key defenders could offer Eintracht encouragement. Frankfurt remain dangerous going forward but have struggled at the back, conceding heavily in recent weeks.

Despite the setback, Bayern's attacking depth and recent momentum mean they travel with confidence, though Kompany will know that defensive gaps against Eintracht's front line could quickly turn the contest into a real test.
