Betway Premiership: Intriguing battles await as Chippa kick off Vusumuzi Vilakazi era

Saturday:

Orbit College v Magesi FC

Orbit College and Magesi FC will clash on Saturday afternoon (15:30) at Olympia Park in Rustenburg.

Orbit College sit in 12th place with 10 points from 10 matches, having managed three wins, one draw, and six defeats. Magesi, meanwhile, are only a point behind in 14th place with two wins and three draws from their opening ten games.

For Orbit College, this match presents an opportunity to build momentum following a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Richards Bay. Magesi, on the other hand, will travel to Rustenburg with renewed confidence after defeating TS Galaxy 2-1 in their last outing.

The recent history between the two sides slightly favours Magesi, who claimed a 2-0 victory in April 2024 after the teams had shared a 1-1 draw earlier in the season.

Polokwane City v Richards Bay FC

Polokwane City will be looking to return to winning ways when they host Richards Bay FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday (18:00).

City are in sixth position with 15 points from 10 matches, while Richards Bay occupy 11th position with 11 points from their 10 fixtures played thus far this season.

City are coming off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates on October 22, while Richards Bay defeated Durban City 3-1 in the Carling Knockout on Saturday. Rise and Shine have had three days' extra rest, which Phuti Mohafe's side will be looking to use to their advantage.

The head-to-head record between the two clubs is finely balanced. Over the last ten meetings, the Natal Rich Boyz hold a slight edge with four wins to Rise and Shine's three, while three games have ended in draws.

In the last two meetings between the sides, City's 3–1 home win in March was preceded by a 2–0 victory for Richards Bay a month earlier. It is the first meeting between the sides of the current season.

Chippa United v AmaZulu FC

AmaZulu FC will be looking to register a second successive win in the Betway Premiership when they take on Chippa United at the Buffalo City Stadium to wrap up Saturday's action (20h15).

AmaZulu snapped a three-match winless run across all competitions when they emerged as 1-0 winners over Durban City at home on October 18. Usuthu are placed seventh in the Betway Premiership standings.

Meanwhile, Chippa extended their winless run to five matches across all competitions when they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Marumo Gallants away on October 19.

The Eastern Cape side have a new head coach in Vusumuzi Vilakazi, the former AmaZulu co-head coach, and this will be his first game in charge of the Chilli Boys against his former employers after Luc Eymael's exit.

Sunday:

TS Galaxy v Stellenbosch

TS Galaxy and Stellenbosch will go head-to-head with one another at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday (15h30).

Galaxy have lost their last three Betway Premiership fixtures - this after winning four of the previous five. However, despite their dreadful recent league form, Adnan Beganovic's side still find themselves in eighth.

That is four points more than Stellies, while the Rockets have also played a game less.

Galaxy crashed out of the Carling Knockout on Sunday with a 2-1 defeat to Golden Arrows, while Stellies secured their passage to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages with a 4-1 thumping of 15 de Agosto on Sunday.

The last time the sides met, which was in October of last year - the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Golden Arrows v Marumo Gallants

In the final duel of the weekend, Golden Arrows front up to Marumo Gallants at King Goodwill Zwelithini on Sunday (18h00).

Both sides come into the encounter, having booked their places in the Carling Knockout Cups with Arrows edging TS Galaxy and Gallants thumping Stellies. Abafana Bes'thende have had a rest period of three more days.

The sides are equal on points in the Betway Premiership having both played 10 matches - with Arrows (9th) ahead of Bahlabane Ba Ntwa (10th) due to a superior goal difference of three.

Arrows have thoroughly dominated recent fixtures between these sides as they are unbeaten in their eight previous clashes with five wins and three draws.

The two sides will meet exactly a week later in the semifinals of the Carling Knockout Cup.
