Diego Simeone demands victory as Atletico Madrid charge into PSV clash

Speaking after Monday's training session, Simeone said the mood in the camp was focused despite back-to-back defeats to Barcelona and Athletic Club.

He said: "The players are used to playing so often that it's inertia, the game is constantly changing. There are two ways: doing things right and doing things wrong. If you do things wrong, you're almost certain to lose."

On the challenge of playing away, he said: "Strength in starting games well is key, especially when you're playing away from home. Tomorrow we face a tough opponent who plays well, is very brave and has shown what they're capable of."

Simeone said his side had competed well despite recent results. He said: "We competed well in Barcelona and Bilbao. We didn't win, that's football. We have to accept we could have been better in some areas and focus on what's coming up."

He also praised Marc Pubill's development. "He's working very well. He's only played two games in that position, but he responded well. He's a lad who is keen to help the team wherever he's needed," he said.

On captain Koke, Simeone said: "We talk to Koke regularly. He understands when it's his turn to play. He's a very important player for the team."

Atletico have lost their last three Champions League away matches. Another defeat would equal their worst-ever run in the competition. However, they are unbeaten against Dutch teams in the Champions League this century and have never lost to PSV in six previous meetings.

Team news confirms that Jose Maria Gimenez was out with a hamstring injury, while Johnny Cardoso remains sidelined with a knee problem. Clement Lenglet is expected to partner David Hancko in central defence, with Koke likely to start in midfield.

Julian Alvarez is set to lead the attack. The Argentine has been directly involved in 13 Champions League goals since last season, supported by Giuliano Simeone and Thiago Almada.
