Mayo joined CR Belouizdad ahead of the 2024/25 season after three standout campaigns with City, where he established himself as one of the PSL's most consistent forwards.
Amakhosi had shown interest in signing him at the time, but Belouizdad tabled a more compelling offer, which City accepted. The transfer came just a year before the Citizens were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Now, only months later, Mayo has resurfaced at Amakhosi on a season-long loan after Belouizdad coach Sead Ramović confirmed he was not in his plans. The deal reportedly includes an obligation for Chiefs to sign the Bafana Bafana attacker permanently at the end of the season.
Speaking to FARPost, Comitis admitted he was surprised by Belouizdad's decision to let Mayo leave.
"I think he did very well at that club. I am very surprised that they allowed him not to stay. I think there is a lot of politics in Algerian football, but for whatever it's worth, I think he has made a great move. He is going to play again and in front of Kaizer Chiefs fans. I think he is going to be very happy," he said.
Comitis further revealed that Belouizdad still owes City the balance of Mayo's transfer fee, but stressed that he remains happy for the player. He also confirmed Chiefs had a chance to sign him earlier but opted not to meet City's terms.
"You know we just have to be happy for the boy, especially now that he is going to be playing again in front of his homeboys. From his father's legacy, I think it's a great thing for Mayo," Comitis added.
