Karim Adeyemi thunderbolt lifts Borussia Dortmund to victory over Wolfsburg

The win came just days after Dortmund's dramatic 4-4 draw away to Juventus in the Champions League, and it marked their best Bundesliga start in eight years, with ten points collected from the opening four matches.

Adeyemi, who had been frustrated with limited playing time in recent weeks, reminded everyone of his quality in the 20th minute when he unleashed a thunderous shot from distance that flew past the Wolfsburg goalkeeper. His strike underlined his determination to earn a regular starting place.

"I know what kind of power he has in his thighs. He jumps higher than anyone from our squad," said head coach Niko Kovac after the match. "Of course, he was upset when he only played five minutes against Union, but he's working harder for the team now, and it's showing."

For Dortmund, the game was also about resilience and structure. Wolfsburg came close to levelling through Konstantinos Koulierakis, whose header rattled the crossbar, but the home side held firm to secure their third consecutive Bundesliga clean sheet.

The afternoon was made even more significant by the return of Nico Schlotterbeck, who started and completed the full 90 minutes after nearly six months out with a torn meniscus. The defender admitted the moment was emotional: "I have worked hard for this for six months and am extremely happy to be back."

Kovac, who previously coached Wolfsburg, expressed his satisfaction at both the win and the defensive discipline. "I'm obviously delighted. First and foremost, about winning. And for the clean sheet, and that Schlotti played the entire 90 minutes. We deserved to win the game because we didn't allow anything."

The result handed Wolfsburg their first defeat of the season, while Dortmund remained unbeaten and firmly in the chasing pack at the top of the Bundesliga. With Adeyemi finding form and Schlotterbeck back in action, the Black and Yellows look well placed to build momentum in the coming weeks.
