Man Utd caught off guard by fresh takeover claims linked to Turki Al-Sheikh

The 44-year-old, known for creating the Riyadh Season entertainment and sporting festival, sparked confusion among both supporters and club staff after hinting that new investment could be on the horizon.

Writing on his X account, Alalshikh said: "The best news I heard today is that Manchester United is now in an advanced stage of completing a deal to sell to a new investor."

The Saudi-based Alalshikh added to his tweet: "I hope he's better than the previous owners."

Al-Sheikh's message appeared just hours after an interview with minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who gave no indication of relinquishing control of Manchester United.

Ratcliffe, who acquired his stake following the 2023 takeover process handled by The Raine Group, remains focused on running the football side of the club.

That 2023 saga saw Ratcliffe prevail over rival bidder Sheikh Jassim, whose 5.5 billion GBP offer for full control failed after doubts over proof of funds.

Sheikh Jassim's bid had included clearing all of United's debt and establishing a fund for the club and community, but it was ultimately rejected. There is currently no sign that he intends to return with a new offer.

Turki Al-Sheikh, who has been heavily involved in boxing's resurgence through major investments, is reportedly in talks to help arrange a Manchester United mid-season friendly in Saudi Arabia - though his exact role in any potential ownership movement remains unclear.
