Masindi Nemtajela explains rapid rise from ABC Motsepe League to Bafana Bafana

The 24-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a rapid rise in his short football career, having joined Bucs from Marumo Gallants last season.

The year before he was still turning out in the ABC Motsepe League, for Senaoane Gunners but is now in contention to go to the Africa Cup of Nations with South Africa.

First up for Hugo Broos' side is a friendly international with Zambia at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, where Nemtajela will have a chance to further prove himself.

Reflecting on his journey, Nemtajela explained that he is thankful for his career trajectory and hopes to make the most of his upcoming opportunities.

He said on IOL: "Since I started playing football, I've always been grateful for everything that has happened along the way.

"My journey hasn't been easy, especially coming from playing on gravel pitches. Things have moved quickly — from the NFL (National Football League) to the PSL (Premier Soccer League) — and in just my second season, I was signed by Orlando Pirates.

"After only a few months at the club and about six matches played, I received a national team call-up. I'm truly thankful because it shows that the hard work I've been putting in during training is paying off."

On his Bafana call-up, the talented young player added: "I'm grateful for the opportunity coach Hugo Broos has given us.

"I'd love to fight for my country at the World Cup. He's opened the door for us — now it's up to us to make the most of it."
