Nigeria's plane forced to make emergency landing ahead of Benin showdown

Nigeria's plane forced to make emergency landing ahead of Benin showdown

The Super Eagles plane reportedly had to divert back to Luanda 25 minutes taking off from a refuelling stop due to a heavy crack that appeared on the windshield.

All players and staff disembarked safely in Angola's capital after the unscheduled landing and were awaiting Nigerian government officials to secure permission to fly another aircraft from Lagos to collect the team and fly them to Uyo.

Nigeria are currently in third position in group C following their 2-1 win over Lesotho on Friday and need to win against Benin and hope South Africa stumbles against Rwanda to secure automatic 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.

Eric Chelle's side will host top of the table Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday.
