Penalty shootout heartbreak for Kaizer Chiefs in Toyota Cup

The match ended goalless after extra-time and Mohamed Kamara saved Inacio Miguel's spot kick to seal the win for the Ghanaian giants.

Amakhosi had started the tie with three of their new signings, as Nkanyiso Shinga and Thabiso Monyane played in defence while Flavio Da Silva took his place up front.

Both sides took their time to settle on a sandy Moses Mabhida Stadium surface, with Glody Lilepo testing Kamara in the 13th minute with a long-range effort that was calmly collected.

Brandon Peterson was then forced to tip over a strong Kwame Opoku header from a dangerous Emmanuel Antwi free kick just a minute later.

Da Silva was wide with a header of his own after 27 minutes while Mfundo Vilakazi curled a 25-metre shot just off target as Chiefs looked to take control of the tie

Lilepo had another good chance to score but smashed his effort on 36 minutes over the crossbar.

Amakhosi head coach Nasreddine Nabi made three changes at half-time as he replaced Thabo Cele for Mduduzi Shabalala as Wandile Duba came on for Antonio Da Silva and Pule Mmodi took over from Vilakazi.

And it was Duba who came closest to scoring, after creating space for a shot but he fired his effort back off the bar.

Chiefs had the chance to win the game in normal time after being awarded a penalty for a foul on Pule Mmodi but Miguel fired wide of the poles.

Miguel was to miss from the spot again in the shootout, alongside four of his teammates, as Asante claimed the trophy.
