Report: Barcelona concerned over 'injured' Lamine Yamal's FIFA World Cup return plan

Reports suggest the Catalan club are uneasy that the teenager could be pushed back into action earlier than expected, with Spain optimistic he may be available for their opening match. Barcelona, however, are insisting that a more cautious approach is needed.

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has given a positive update on Yamal and other recovering players, including Mikel Merino and Nico Williams, saying their progress has been encouraging.

"These players are making good progress in their recovery," De la Fuente said. "I think they'll all be available for the first match, but we'll assess whether it's worth them playing that game."

While Spain view this as good news, Barcelona see it differently. The club believe the focus should remain on a fully completed recovery plan rather than any early return driven by tournament urgency.

Yamal suffered a biceps femoris injury in his left leg during Celta Vigo's clash against Barcelona on 22 April and has not played since. Medical staff initially estimated an eight-week recovery period.

With Spain set to open their FIFA World Cup campaign against Cape Verde on 15 June, the timing places Yamal at the very earliest stage of his recovery window, which is the key source of concern for Barcelona.
