Springbok forward duo sign new Bulls contracts

The duo are regarded as two of the most promising forward talents in South Africa, having both already debuted for the Boks.

Wessels, renowned for his versatility in being able to play loosehead prop and hooker, was selected in Rassie Erasmus' squad for the November internationals but missed out on the opportunity to add to his nine Test caps due to a controversial suspension.

Meanwhile, one-Test Bok Hanekom sustained an injury that ruled him out for the entire international season.

Both players began their professional careers aged 18 at the Bulls and will continue their careers with the club until at least the end of the 2028 season.

"There's unfinished business here, and I'm determined to help the Vodacom Bulls achieve their goals and to make every supporter proud," said Hanekom. "To wear this jersey is a massive honour, but to keep wearing it till 2028 is a dream come true."

Wessels, meanwhile, has been praised for his hybrid ability - he can play both hooker and loosehead - plus his skill and physical prowess.

Commenting on developments, Blue Bulls Company chief executive Edgar Rathbone said: "We pride ourselves on being a club where champions are made, and the decision by Jan-Hendrik and Cameron to extend their contracts is a massive vote of confidence in the Vodacom Bulls family.

"Retaining players of the calibre of this pair is a major statement of intent. Jan-Hendrik is a unique talent with his front-row versatility, and Cameron is an explosive athlete who will be back to his best very soon. They represent the high-quality, long-term investments we are making to ensure we consistently challenge for titles."

In a recent interview, Hanekom set his sights on marking his return from a hamstring injury in the United Rugby Championship clash against the Sharks on December 20.

The fixture will also be the first match that Wessels is eligible for selection with the final game of his suspension being the Investec Champions Cup clash against Northampton Saints the week prior.
