'Trying to stay strong was important,' says Solomons after Man of the Match performance for Chiefs

The 28-year-old wing-back was a regular starter for Amakhosi in the second half of last season, having also started the previous campaign on the bench.

He played 16 games in total last term, with one assist, and has had to wait until just this past week to make an appearance, in Chiefs' CAF Confederation Cup second leg qualifier - where he was voted Man-of-the-Match.

Solomons played provider for Chiefs' only goal of the game as they beat Angolan side Kabuscorp to take the tie to penalties.

Speaking after the game, the former Moroka Swallows wide-man explained that he never lost his confidence and always knew he would be ready to take his chance when it arrived.

"Trying to stay in a good mental state, that was really important," said Solomons in the Citizen.

"And working on the things I felt I could work on. For me it is always good to speak to the coaches, to find out where you can improve and to work on those things. Also to keep yourself physically good so when the opportunity comes you are ready."

Solomons is behind Thabiso Monyane and Reeve Frosler in the pecking order at Chiefs but could expect a run in the side after his standout performance.

Amakhosi are next in action against AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday.

"Coming into Saturday's game for myself it is just about trying to keep our momentum going. Sometimes in the last couple of seasons we have won a few games and then it just dies.

“We don't want that to happen. We want to be more consistent," Solomons concluded.
