Five-way tie for BMW International Open lead after round one in Germany
Marco Penge, Gavin Green, Wenyi Ding, Darius van Driel and Ugo Coussaud top a congested leaderboard after the first round of the BMW International Open in Munich.
The 25-year-old American, making just his tenth start on the DP World Tour, kickstarted his round with a stunning hole-in-one at the par-three 12th - his third hole of the day - holing a nine iron from 166 yards for the 12th ace of the DP World Tour season.
Bryant went on to card nine birdies and two bogeys in a thrilling round that took him to 12 under par.
Norway's Kristoffer Reitan surged into contention with a bogey-free 65 to reach 10 under, while England's Jordan Smith and Daniel Brown joined Japan's Yuto Katsuragawa at nine under.
The second round was interrupted for nearly two hours due to lightning in the area.
"I don't really know what happened today. I think the ace kind of jumpstarted things," said Bryant.
"I don't feel like I've played my best golf since Q School, to be honest. I had some time off over the holidays, played some HotelPlanner Tour events to start the year, and feel like my game is starting to get back to where I want it to be.
"Just super pleased with last week's finish, the first two rounds here, and then today, catching lightning in a bottle and just rolling with it.
"Not really thinking too far ahead. Everyone in the field can win this event. We've still got two rounds to go."
Smith, Brown, and Katsuragawa sit three shots off the pace, while Scotland's Scott Jamieson, American Ryggs Johnston, Spain's David Puig, and Italy's Francesco Laporta are a further stroke back at eight under.
