Luis Enrique: Tottenham approached me before Paris Saint-Germain move

The Spanish manager and former international, best known for guiding Barcelona to a historic treble in 2014-15, was approached by Spurs shortly after leaving his post as Spain's national team boss.

"There were some options in the last six months before I came to Paris and Tottenham was one of them," Enrique revealed this week.

Instead, Enrique opted to succeed Christophe Galtier at Paris Saint-Germain two summers ago.

His impact in Paris has been immediate and emphatic. In his debut 2023-24 season, PSG swept all three domestic trophies, claiming a domestic treble.

The following campaign, Enrique made history again, leading the club to France's first-ever continental treble - capped by their maiden UEFA Champions League triumph in May 2025.

That victory has set up Wednesday's Super Cup showdown against Tottenham, who lifted the UEFA Europa League last season.

The match, to be staged in Italy on 13 August 2025, will see Enrique face the very club he once declined to join.
